Teeth Scaling and Polishing In Pakistan

Even with regular brushing and flossing, plaque gradually hardens into calculus, a stubborn deposit that only a dental professional can remove. Left untreated, calculus triggers gum inflammation, bad breath, and can eventually lead to tooth loss. Professional teeth scaling and polishing is the most effective and interceptive treatment to break this cycle.

At DentoCorrect, we perform teeth scaling and polishing using ultrasonic technology at our ISO-certified clinics across Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Peshawar. Whether you need a routine six-monthly clean or are dealing with visible calculus buildup, our dental team delivers thorough, comfortable, and lasting results.

Signs You May Need Teeth Scaling & Polishing

You should book a professional cleaning if you notice any of the following:

Bleeding gums while brushing or flossing

Early-stage gingivitis; bacterial plaque at gum line

Persistent bad breath (Halitosis)

Sulphur-producing bacteria in plaque and calculus deposits

Yellow or brown deposits near gum line

Calculus (hardened tartar) cannot be removed at home

Swollen, red, or tender gums

Gum inflammation caused by bacterial biofilm

Rough or gritty feel on tooth surfaces

Calculus accumulation on enamel

Sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet foods

Exposed root surfaces from gum recession due to plaque

What Is Teeth Scaling & Polishing?

Teeth scaling and polishing is a two-part professional dental cleaning procedure:

  • Scaling: A dentist or hygienist uses ultrasonic and manual instruments to remove plaque and hardened tartar (calculus) from all tooth surfaces, including just below the gum line. This targets bacteria that regular brushing cannot reach.
  • Polishing: After scaling, a mildly abrasive prophylaxis paste is applied using a rotating rubber cup to smooth the tooth surface. This removes surface stains, leaves teeth feeling clean, and reduces the rate at which new plaque adheres.

Together, scaling and polishing form the foundation of preventive dentistry. The two procedures are always performed together polishing without scaling leaves bacteria in place; scaling without polishing leaves with rough surfaces that attract plaque faster.

A dentist uses a dental tool to perform the scaling and polishing.

Scaling & Polishing Process

Our scaling & polishing treatment uses a precise, clinically guided process to remove plaque and tartar, improve gum health and leave teeth clean and smooth. Each step is performed with care for comfort and explained clearly before treatment begins.

Your dentist examines your teeth, gums, and plaque levels. A periodontal probe checks pocket depth to identify areas of concern. If required, X-rays are taken to assess bone health beneath the gum line.

Clinical Examination & Gum Assessment

An ultrasonic scaler uses high-frequency vibrations to break down and dislodge hardened tartar and calculus from the tooth surface and slightly below the gum margin. Continuous water irrigation flushes away debris simultaneously.

Ultrasonic Scaling, Removing Tartar

Curettes and scalers are used manually to remove any remaining deposits in tight spaces between teeth and below the gum line, ensuring a thorough clean where ultrasonic tips cannot reach precisely.

Hand Instrument Fine Cleaning

A professional polishing paste applied with a rotating rubber cup smooths all tooth surfaces, removes surface stains from tea, coffee, or tobacco, and leaves teeth bright and resistant to new plaque adhesion.

Polishing with Prophylaxis Paste

After the cleaning is complete, your dentist performs a final check to ensure all plaque, tartar and stains have been removed effectively. You’ll also receive personalized oral hygiene advice.

Final Checks

Based on your specific gum condition, your dentist provides personalised brushing and flossing guidance including correct brush angle, technique, and tools to help you maintain the results between visits.

FAQs

For most patients, scaling and polishing is a painless procedure. You may feel mild vibration from the ultrasonic scaler and slight pressure near sensitive areas. If you have significant tartar buildup or inflamed gums, there may be temporary sensitivity. At DentoCorrect, we apply topical numbing gel to sensitive areas and adjust the scaler intensity to keep the procedure comfortable.

Routine teeth scaling and polishing at DentoCorrect starts from Rs. [INSERT PRICE] per session. Across Pakistan, prices typically range from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 15,000 depending on the clinic, city, and level of plaque accumulation. We provide a transparent cost estimate after your initial examination.

Most patients should have professional scaling and polishing every six months. Patients who smoke, have diabetes, wear braces, or have a history of gum disease may require more frequent cleaning — every three to four months. Your dentist at DentoCorrect will recommend the right frequency for your specific situation.

No — scaling does not make teeth loose. This is a common misconception. If teeth feel slightly mobile immediately after scaling, it is because the hardened tartar that was wedged between teeth has been removed. The slight wobble is temporary and resolves as gums re-attach and heal within a few days. If a tooth was already loosened by advanced bone loss, this would be present before the cleaning as well.

Professional scaling performed by a qualified dentist does not damage enamel. The ultrasonic scaler and hand instruments are designed to target only calculus and plaque deposits. Enamel is harder than tartar and is not affected by the vibration frequency used. However, excessive or aggressive DIY scraping with sharp instruments at home can damage enamel — always have scaling done professionally.
